Professor of Healthcare Finance

Department of Health Services UCLA School of Public Health

Fred Hagigi is a Professor of Health Services in the UCLA School of Public Health and Director of Global Health Initiatives in the Department of Family Medicine in the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine. He teaches Healthcare Finance, Marketing, and Applied Field Project in the Executive Master of Public Health (EMPH) Program. At the UCLA Anderson School of Management, he teaches the Business of Healthcare-Global Perspective for the Fully Employed MBA (FEMBA) Program. He serves as the Chair of the UCLA Healthcare Collaborative, a joint community-education program of UCLAs Schools of Medicine, Management, Nursing and Public Health. Dr. Hagigi serves on advisory boards of various community and academic organizations, including the UCLA School of Nursing Global Health Committee. He lectures at various national and international meetings on healthcare delivery and education systems.

Dr. Hagigi is former Director of the UCLA Executive Education Programs in Healthcare Management & Policy where he designed and organized the Global Health Certificate for the EMPH program, and redesigned the EMPH curriculum along competency-based criteria, which earned the program its most recent maximum accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME).

Mr. Amir Heshmatpour

Mr. Amir Heshmatpour is the Founder and Managing Director of AFH Holding & Advisory LLC, an integrated advisory and consulting firm serving U.S. and international clients who seek strategic counsel and sophisticated access to global capital markets. Since founding the Company in 2003, he has led AFH through numerous successful transactions both in the United States and China.

Prior to founding AFH, Amir Heshmatpour was the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Metrophone Telecommunications, Inc., a company he began in 1994 with $ 30,000. At the age of 24, Amir Heshmatpour completed his first reverse merger between Metrophone and Datawave Communications, a prepaid telephone card company, which was affiliated with AT&T.

Over the next ten years, Amir Heshmatpour spearheaded Metrophone’s growth, leading it through a total of 17 acquisitions and growing the business to over $100 million in revenue. Metrophone was twice named among the 100 fastest growing companies in the Northwest and by 2003 the company operated in 34 states and was ranked among the top 10 public service providers in the U.S.

Ms. April Sutton

April Sutton is an award-winning Television Broadcast Pioneer in Hollywood. She became the youngest Inductee in the Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 1993 for her outstanding television reports on Black Entertainment Television (B.E.T.) Network.

More than 40 million TV viewers have watched her entertainment reports covering the Oscar Awards, Grammy Music Awards, Emmy Awards, Golden Globe Awards, American Music Awards, Hollywood Movie Premieres, and Red-Carpet gala events.

The Ohio native became the first hired Hollywood on-air talent for B.E.T., as the "Face of Hollywood" for 10 years, which sealed her name as part of BET's early history. Her list of celebrity interviews includes: Oscar winners Jamie Foxx, Jennifer Hudson, Denzel Washington, Halle Berry, Tom Hanks, and top artists Jim Carey, Tom Cruise, Beyonce, Janet Jackson, Quincy Jones, Sean Connery, Chris Rock, Jessica Alba, Jennifer Lopez, Mariah Carey, Madonna, Samuel L. Jackson, Robin Williams, P. Diddy, and Eddie Murphy just to name a few.

Her status as a Hollywood Socialite and popular TV Host soon opened new career opportunities. In 1996 she became a contributing West Coast Television Correspondent for the Geraldo Show (CBS), covering the O.J. Simpson case, the Princess Diana story, the Ennis Cosby story, the Tupac Shakur story, Hollywood movie premieres and Red-carpet gala events.

Ms. Kusum Kavia is the driving operations force behind Combustion Associates, Inc (CAI). As chief operating officer, she draws on a vast store of knowledge of international business and finance to position this American-based company as a leading exporter of U.S. technology in power generation. The success of this effort has been, and continues to be, recognized in accolades from various levels within the U.S. government and from professional business associations. With her vision set on expanding CAIs role to provide power solutions that are cost-effective with special emphasis on emerging nations, she continues to lead CAI forward to new markets and opportunities.

Her love of her homeland, Kenya (she was born in Nairobi), and for the African continent has shaped much of her focus through the refinement of CAI. CAI has active projects currently operational in Benin and projects in development in Ghana, Togo and other countries within the continent.
